Fold, Glue, Paint, Color

When it comes to teaching kids about art, it usually involves teaching them artistic techniques. Rarely are children asked to analyze works of art and give their interpretation of it. We wanted to get the children to talk about the works of art that have surrounded them for the past three days; however, we didn’t want to deprive them of the chance to make something.

That’s where these come in.

Everyone made their own chatterboxes. Inside, instead of having jokes or riddles, every fold opened to a question regarding the artwork. Some of these included

What is the artwork made of?

How does the artwork make you feel?

Think of six words to describe the artwork.

Students went around the room in pairs and questioned each other whenever they reached an artwork that they liked.

Afterwards, we worked on a mixed media self-portrait.

First, we traced out portraits of ourselves.

Then, we used paper, glitter glue, and colored pencils to decorate it.Our next activity was phase three of our mask making. Having formed and shaped them, it was now tie to paint them.To end the day, we continued to color and decorate our murals from yesterday. We can’t believe that the week is almost over. Be sure to stop by tomorrow to check out our artist exhibition!
